Columbia High senior Sara Stanton attended the Global Young Leaders Conference this Aug. 5-16 in Washington D.C. and New York City.
This gathering of students recognized for scholastic excellence and leadership qualities explores global issues and attends meetings provided by world leaders.
The attendees participate in mock summits in order to resolve assigned world problems.
Stanton was assigned to the team representing Haiti and worked on solving that country's needs for adequate fresh water supply and political unrest.
The participants were from countries around the globe, which offered opportunities for sharing cultural, social and political ideas.
In addition to attending the meetings, the students had opportunities to visit the national monuments in Washington D.C. and sites in New York City like the United Nations, Statue of Liberty, museums and Ellis Island. They watched the Broadway play "The Drowsy Chaperone."
Stanton enjoyed meeting kids from Germany, England, France and several states in the United States.
