See works by graphite artist

Wild, who is a bit of a storyteller, creates large graphite drawings of family, friends and new friends. Working from snapshots, she makes art of the wonderful stories and experiences the photos capture.

"People are fascinating," says Wild, "Their feelings and spirit, where they have been, what they have done and what they have learned, what shows on the outside, the light and textures, the landscape of experiences written on beautiful faces. Graphite is the purest of mediums, the simple pencil can express amazing complexity yet remain very intimate. My best works are often commissioned pieces using favorite snapshots provided by strangers and friends. The challenge of working this way is to honor the moment and experience the photograph represents by trying to keep the drawings as realistic as possible, while tweaking the photos enough for me to have some fun."

Wild earned a master of Fine Arts in Drawing, Painting and Printmaking in 1979. She has shown her work in numerous national juried and invitational exhibitions including the Brooklyn Museum of Modern Art's invitational "Works in Graphite" exhibition, 1978. Her earlier one-person exhibitions include the Seattle Museum of Modern Art; Sturgeon Gallery, Central Washington University, Ellensburg; Stone Press Gallery, Seattle; and Columbia Art Gallery, Hood River.

Wild is currently the fine arts/graphics instructor at Columbia High School and a freelance artist. She has also held the positions of drawing instructor, Mt. Hood Community College; fine art printer, Stone Press Gallery and Press, Seattle; and adjunct professor, Central Washington University.

The exhibit will continue through October 29 during regular library hours.
