On Oct. 1, the 8th annual Maryhill Loops Hill Climb event will take place on the old Hill Loops road near Goldendale.
The Maryhill Loops Climb originated in 1955 and was held each year from 1955 though 1963 on the oldest paved road in the state. The event was discontinued after 1963 due to the deterioration of this historic road.
The Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts was able to revive this vintage sports car event in 1999 after a large section of the road was restored.
SOVERN (Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts) has featured vintage racing cars from the 40's, 50's and 60's and some of the drivers who drove them.
In the first 7 years of the revived event SOVERN brought back some of the original cars and drivers including the Cadillac powered Allard that won the hill climb the first four years of the original event.
A 1949 MG TC that raced in the 1955 hill climb was driven in 2000 by the same owner/driver who drove it in 1955.
An open car show, no charge, will be held on Sept. 30 on the lawn of Maryhill Museum. This year promises to be another exciting and fun-filled event.
Car lovers and racing enthusiasts won't want to miss this great weekend.
This is a great family event for vintage race car enthusiasts of all ages.
Oct. 1 race day tickets will be sold on site at $15 per carload of observers.
