Anna Anderson of Snowden and Mariah Rawding of Husum represented the Hood River Valley Swim Team as members of Team Oregon during the 2008 Western Zone Swim Meet held Aug. 5-9 in Gresham, Ore.
Anderson, 17, competed in the girls 17-18 age division in five events. She finished with three personal records (PRs) in three of her five event finals and scored five points for Team Oregon.
Anderson's top finishes came in the finals of the 200-meter breaststroke (6th in PR time of 2 minutes, 57.44 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (7th in PR time of 1:21.46). Her third PR came in the 100 freestyle final (17th in 1:04.74).
Rawding, 12, swam in the 11-12 girls division and recorded PRs in two of her three swims--all event finals. She knocked almost a full second off her HRVST age-group record time in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.53, good for 19th place) and pared her time in the 50 butterfly down to 34.44 seconds.
All told, 81 swimmers from Oregon swim clubs comprised Team Oregon, which "competed against 15 Local Swim Committees from Hawaii and Alaska, to Colorado, California, Arizona and all places in between," said HRVST Coach Shelly Rawding.
Scott Bergstrom of Snowden registered eight personal records and seven Oregon `A' meet qualifying times earlier this month during HRVST's 2008 Secure Storage Summer Invitational at the Hood River Aquatic Center.
Bergstrom, 13, scored first-place finishes for the Osprey in the 100-yard butterfly, 400 individual medley and 500 freestyle for boys ages 13-14. He also tallied two second-place finishes and one third, fourth and fifth.
Matthew Bergstrom, 12, posted eight top-10 finishes in the 11-12 boys division during the Aug. 2-3 meet. His best finishes--second place--came in the 50 butterfly and the 50 freestyle.
Aidan Trummel, 9, of White Salmon totaled five personal records and five Oregon `B' meet times, while Collin Trummel, 6, turned in a second-place effort, in his lone successful swim, in the 25 freestyle for 6-and-under boys.
