Late news from the local Good Sam RV Club -- May found 3 rigs at the Washington State Good Sam meeting at Lynden, stopping off on the way to attend the SW Washington Fun Fest at Francis. From there they traveled to Viento Park in Oregon where they met up with seven more from their group. In May they also participated in the clean up at Lyle-Balch Cemetery. The first weekend in June 10 rigs attended the auction in Ione, Ore. What a fun time these members seem to have.
Lyle Community Council meets Monday, June 27. Doug Miller from the PUD will be attending to update the community on the progress of the new water/wastewater treatment plant. Also on the agenda will be a discussion of a proposed education evening, this fall, to inform the Lyle parents, teachers, and youth on the hazards of using the popular drug "Meth." History of the Lyle Water Co from a history submitted by Rex Bullis to the Klickitat Heritage in 1984.
"When Mr. James died suddenly in 1967 the business affairs of the company were turned over to Marshall and Lillian Hamm. They were in charge of having meters read, billing figured, collections made, and all other necessary details accomplished. The base rate at that time was $2.25 for 4,000 gallons of water, so people of Lyle were getting a bargain, although some didn't think so."
"In 1972 and 1973 the people of Lyle voted to have the PUD install a sewer system. The PUD was willing to do this but only if they could purchase the water system also. The shareholders voted to sell and the actual sale took place in June 1973. After the sale the shareholders were paid and the corporation was dissolved. The small sum left in the bank account to meet any unforeseen expenses was never used and now, after eleven years, the directors agreed to close the account and donate the $278.13 to the local Lions Club. Please use this money as you think best, preferably to fill some local need."
Only in America -- Do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions, while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
