Construction work on S. Maple Street will be closed for a two-day period in early August, Aug. 9-10, temporarily blocking vehicle access to the Port of Klickitat and the Bingen Marina.
The city of Bingen is in the process of rebuilding Maple Street from State Route 14 (Steuben Street) south to Lakeview Boulevard, which leads to Bingen Point. This project involves the replacement of the railroad crossing, and that is why the road will be completely closed during this weekend period.
To keep Maple Street open during the week and provide access for businesses located south of the railroad crossing, the City has found it necessary to close South Maple Street on Aug. 9 and 10, Saturday and Sunday, in order for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad to replace the entire four-track crossing. Motor vehicles will not have access to Bingen Point, including the Port of Klickitat and the marina on those two days.
The entire Maple Street Reconstruction Project is designed to provide better road and pedestrian access to the industrial and recreation area south of the railroad.
