Rep. David Taylor has been named assistant ranking Republican on the House General Government Appropriations and Oversight Committee.
The 15th District lawmaker was appointed to the committee prior to the opening of the 2011 legislative session, and assumes his new leadership role on the panel immediately.
The committee addresses issues relating to funding and oversight of general government, natural resources, and corrections programs and agencies, and makes funding recommendations to the Ways and Means Committee.
In addition, it considers bills relating to general government, natural resources and corrections with limited fiscal impact.
Taylor's more prominent role on the panel will allow his colleague, Rep. Mike Armstrong, the former assistant ranking member, to devote additional time and attention to his duties as the lead Republican on the House Transportation Committee. Armstrong has been integrally involved in the committee's demanding budget-writing process.
In addition to his latest leadership responsibility, Taylor continues as ranking Republican on the House State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee.
"It's a challenging workload, but this is an unusually challenging legislative year," said Taylor. "The pressures will grow steadily more intense as the session moves along, and each of us must be prepared to step up and do what's necessary as we get deeper into the process. Republicans may be in the minority, but we're not on the sidelines."
In addition to his two committee leadership posts, Taylor continues to serve on the House Environment Committee, and the Labor and Workforce Development Committee.
