Jeanie Vieira has been named chief executive at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital and the Columbia Gorge Service Area, effective Sunday, May 15.
Vieira will oversee the Hood River hospital as well as its 12 clinics, home health and hospice divisions, and senior care facilities Down Manor and Brookside Manor. She succeeds Ed Freysinger, who stepped down in February.
A familiar face at Providence, Vieira has worked at the hospital for 25 years, most recently serving as chief operating officer and nursing executive. Overall, she has nearly three decades of experience in health care.
“She has been a leader for us through significant growth of services in Hood River, experiencing both challenging circumstances and incredible outcomes,” said Paul Gaden, chief executive for Providence’s Eastern Division services.
Gaden also cited Vieira’s “deep commitment” to Providence’s mission of caring for the poor and vulnerable, as well as the hospital’s core values of respect, stewardship, excellence, justice and compassion as examples of her strength as a leader.
More than 50 candidates applied for the job.
Susan Frost, director of public relations and foundation, felt Vieira’s local background gives her special insight into the job.
“As a native of Hood River, Jeanie has a broad network of local contacts and a strong understanding of the culture, demographics, strengths and needs in the communities we serve,” Frost said. “Her leadership and clinical experience will help us advance all aspects of our ministry.”
Vieira said she was “very excited” to step into a new role in a familiar workplace.
