Herschel Sanchey of Klickitat won three running events and Lyle/Wishram's Mike Murphy set personal records in two of of the three throws last Saturday at the Stan Thompson Simcoe Relays invitational track and field meet in Goldendale.
Sanchey, following a runner-up finish to Goldendale's Asa Israel in the 800-meter run, took first place in the 1600 and 3200 runs, and the 300 intermediate hurdles. His time in the hurdles (46.15 seconds) was a PR.
Murphy won the javelin with a career-best throw of 133 feet, 2 inches. He placed second in the shot put with a PR of 43-6 and third in the discus with a mark of 130-2.
Other notable performances were turned in by Klickitat's Jeromie Mason in the triple jump and L/W's Henry Matai in the 110 high hurdles.
Mason prevailed in the pit with a PR leap of 39-10--six inches longer than his previous best--while Matai was first to the finish in 16.39 seconds.
In a spirited team competition, host Goldendale edged Lyle/Wishram, 127 to 124, for the top spot.
