SKAMANIA COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE
On March 15, 2005, alert employees at the A&J Select Market in Stevenson noticed suspicious activity from two of their customers, as they purchased two components used as precursors in manufacturing methamphetamine.
The employees promptly notified their supervisors, who immediately contacted the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives and patrol deputies responded and contacted the two subjects as they exited the store.
Through an investigation at the scene, officers found one of the subjects to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine, as well as items used in the sale and use of the narcotic.
Arrested at the scene was 23-year-old Shawn A. Juber, Portland, Ore.
The vehicle Juber was driving was impounded.
On March 17, 2005, detectives served a search warrant on the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, detectives found a complete methamphetamine-manufacturing lab.
According to Clark/Skamania Drug Task Force Detective Tracy Wyckoff, the lab had been used in the past, and with the precursors purchased in the store, was nearly ready to be used again.
"Sheriff's detectives and deputies are taking a proactive stance on the sale,, manufacture and use of drugs, such as methamphetamine. As is evident in this case, it is only with the assistance of the public that we can truly be effective," said Monty Buettner, investigations sergeant.
