On Feb. 3, PacifiCorp and the other parties to the 1999 Condit Settlement Agreement finalized a memorandum of agreement (MOA) whereby the Condit Hydroelectric Project's operations will be extended from October 2006 to October 2008, to provide additional time for project-removal permitting.
The extended period of operations will allow PacifiCorp to raise an additional $3.3 million for permitting and mitigation costs beyond the $17.15 million the Portland-based utility agreed to in 1999.
The MOA does not make any further changes to the settlement, and project decommissioning and removal are expected to take place in October 2008.
"This change will give us more time to work with permitting agencies, and in particular the counties and communities near the project, on the details of decommissioning and removal," said Gail Miller, Condit Project Manager. "We're looking forward to exploring the best ways to minimize the impact of removal within the overall cost cap."
The 14-megawatt Condit Hydroelectric Project is located on the White Salmon River, three miles upstream from the Columbia River.
