It occurs to me that news recently is not a series of discrete events but observations of life pursuing it's goals -- a shower for soon to be wed Jonathan and Sara Stewart; Laurie Sherburne's sojourn in southern California helping her sister settle up the estate of her late parents; Phil and Rowena Sanford preparing for an extended stay with Rowena's mother who is ill; Doug and Janet Anderson's just having had another in a long series of family reunions in Trout Lake. Some of us who have been the children of fine parents are now the oldest generation in our families.
Many of us enjoyed the annual July 4th celebration at the Claussens.
It's nice to have Ken McDonald and Rachael Hamon back in town for the summer.
Mike and Judy Holman just returned from visiting their beautiful granddaughter, Emma, in McCall Idaho.
The Belieu's have the pleasure of grandchildren Lily and Reese, with mother Jenny for the week of Bible school.
Trout Lake School graduates return for visits to family and old friends.
Pat Arnold's daughter Abby has been here for a month but will soon return to Denmark where she will be pursuing her education. Her brother, Dusty Lopez, was here for two weeks. It was great to see him out running, with mother or sister trying to keep up on their bikes.
Scott Longanecker (remember Ken and Julie Longanecker's oldest son ?) was here with wife Stephanie and daughter Jenna in search of property. It's hard to get Trout Lake out of your system!
The Saturday Market opened with great vigor! Kathy Peterson's breads are a definite "to try." Jessie Robertson and Anna Nakae came back from the market with lovely velvet purses and dangling earrings. My daughter-in-law and I got lovely little gourd ornaments for our Christmas trees. There were fresh raspberries but I was too slow at buying them -- and I left before the fresh lettuce came from Linda Robertson.
The Art Festival and Fair boards are busily wrapping up details for those events. There are still volunteer opportunities available for you with these events -- call Dean and Rosie Hostetter for the festival and Karen Smith
regarding the fair.
Remember for the summer -- the school library is open 10 a.m. to noon every Wednesday, the Fort Vancouver Library bookmobile is a regular event.
The Art Festival is July 19 and 20 - free admission -except you must buy tickets for Saturday night's concert and picnic -- call Hostetters about that. The brochures with artist information and music schedules are out-check at the post office or store.
The fair of course, is the first weekend in August -- Aug. 3 and 4. The booklets for that will soon be available, and there are already posters all over town..
I had the date for the HUGE garage sale for the Community Foundation's Scholarship fund wrong -- it is Labor Day weekend. Check with Cora Lee Warner for details.
In our community, if you have a flat tire, you can expect seven people to stop and offer help -- anything from taking your groceries home (thanks Cathy Walker) to jacking up the truck.
What venerated old property in Trout Lake was listed in the New York Times for 3.5 million dollars? Ok, just one clue -- they noted its really great front porch. If that's not enough, go to www.eaglestar.net.
Talk to you in a month -- Bonnie Reynolds
