JANICE CREIGHTON
69-year-old Janice Fay Creighton died at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore., on March 2, 2006. She was born in White Salmon on Jan. 19, 1937, to Adolph and Eava (Rowley) Schmid.
She was raised on a dairy farm in Trout Lake and graduated valedictorian from Trout Lake High School in 1954. She married Fred Dollar shortly after high school and they had five children. On Oct. 9, 1965, she married James Creighton, loving companion and father to her children for more than 40 years. Mrs. Creighton worked at the Hood River Inn and at Underwood Fruit.
Mrs. Creighton was a gifted quilter, loved sewing, gardening, huckleberry picking, reading, canning and shopping at garage sales. She also volunteered as den mother for the Cub Scouts and Brownies and she was a home start teacher. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Creighton is survived by her husband, Jim, White Salmon; her children Diann Beseda, Trout Lake, Glenn Dollar, Vancouver, Kent Dollar, White Salmon, Candy Fetsch, White Salmon, and Jana Clark, Husum; brother Delbert Schmid, Trout Lake; 11 grandchildren three great-grandchildren (two great-grandchildren on the way). She was preceded in death by brother Leonard Schmid.
A Celebration of Life potluck service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2006, at the Trout Lake Grange.

FLORENCE LEWIS
F1orence E. (Krueger) Lewis, died Feb. 24, 2006, at an adult home care facility in The Dalles, Ore. She was 89 years old.
She was born in 1916 in Portland, Ore. She married Dick Lewis in 1940 and after the war they settled in Trout Lake, where they established a poultry farm. After retirement from their farm they moved to Hillsboro, Ore., where they resided for 30 years and recently returned to the Mid-Columbia area to be closer to family. While in Hillsboro, Mrs. Lewis enjoyed working at The Cedar Chest.
She was preceded in death by Dick, her husband of 65 years, her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her brothers John Krueger, Raymond, Don Krueger, Portland, Ore.; her three daughters Rebecca Knutson, Portland, Ore., Katherine Long, Mosier, Ore., and Mary Lewis, Tigard, Ore.; four granddaughters and seven great grandchildren.
Private cremation has been held and at her request no services will be conducted.

RAY JOHNSTON
Ray W. Johnston, 60, of Underwood, died at his home Friday, March 3, 2006.
He was born in Tucson, Ariz., on Oct. 23, 1945, to Helen and Raymond Johnston. He grew up in Phoenix and received his bachelor and master of Business Education at Arizona State University.
Upon meeting Darla Mace at the Phoenix newspapers, they fell in love and married on Nov. 23, 1965. In 1969, he accepted a teaching job at Forks High School, where he taught for 3 years.
In August of 1972, Mr. Johnson accepted a teaching job with Stevenson High School, where he continued to teach for 32 years, retiring in 2004. Besides teaching, he developed a passion for youth and government. He worked with Y and G for 25 years, during which time he also served on the state board.
He served the high school by running the concession stand at every home game for 32 years, worked with student council, was in charge of the bookstore, and kept track of the accounts for the school.
His passions included gardening, jewelry making, reading, and his family.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Darla, Underwood; son Jay Johnston; daughter Shawna Caldwell, Hood River, Ore.; and five grandchildren, Wesley, Derek, Taryn Johnston and Sophie and Griffin Caldwell; mother Helen Roberts and sister Joann Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A family graveside service was held March 3 at Chris-Zada Cemetery in Underwood. A memorial service will be held at Stevenson High School gymnasium on March 12 at 3 p.m.
