Marthella McCabe, 69, died at her home in Klickitat on Feb. 26, 2007, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Dierks, Ark., the daughter of A.G. "Farmer" Brown and Etta M. Ross Brown. The family moved to Washington State in 1940, first to Lyle, then to Goldendale.
She married James L. McCabe on Feb. 16, 1954, in Vancouver. They lived in Goldendale until 1975 when they moved to Klickitat where they remained. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her son Steven L. McCabe in September of 2005, a niece Tommi Jean Gray and parents Farmer and Etta Brown.
Surviving are her husband James L. McCabe, Klickitat; daughter Christine Garrett-Taylor, Maxwell, Iowa; son Jonathon McCabe, Pullman; grandchildren Alexander Garrett, Nevada, Iowa, Michael McCabe, Seattle, Tyler Garrett, Marshalltown, Iowa, Electra, Brianna, and Kilacindra McCabe, Pullman; brother David Brown, Vancouver; sisters Juanez Ropp, Eugene, Ore., Doris Cornett, Kelso, and Carol Randall, Tacoma; as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McCabe was an avid reader, cross word puzzle worker and a great lover of cats and music. She enjoyed discussing politics and working on family genealogy.
A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon at 1 p.m.
