FRANK LEATON
Services for Frank Leaton, 49, Lubbock, Texas, were held Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at W.W. Rix Chapel, with David Eppler officiating. Interment was in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Leaton died on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
Born Franklin Calvin Leaton on Nov. 11, 1953, in White Salmon, he was the son of Frank Chester and Dorothy (Nichols, Anrig) Leaton. He grew up in Glenwood, attending school until graduation in 1972. He was a veteran of the Navy and a member of City View Christian Fellowship of Lubbock.
While in the services in Japan, he and Linda (Peppers) Leaton were married. The couple had four children.
Upon returning from the service, he had a logging operation in Glenwood and then moved to Woodland, and eventually on to Texas as a long haul truck driver.
Mr. Leaton loved basketball, as a player in high school and then as a referee on local and state levels before leaving Washington State.
He married Charisse Linker on Dec. 15, 1997, in Lubbock. He owned L & H Logistics and CharBon Trucking.
He is remembered by many as a gentle loving man and had many friends in Washington State, as well as in the Lubbock area.
Survivors include his wife Charisse; sons Jerad and Sean, Lubbock; daughters Jaimie Leaton, Lubbock, and Janet Raardan, Mineola, Kan.; stepdaughter Christina Gunnels, Lubbock; stepson Michael Rogers, Lubbock; sisters Faye Neff, Gig Harbor, and Sylvia Holly, Goldendale; brother Philip Anrig, Issaquah; grandchildren Dakota Raardan; and five step-grandchildren Travis, Jayna, Mark Mackenzie and Brooklin.
ERNA WILHELM
Erna Marie Krenz Wilhelm died on Feb. 27, 2003, at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 4 days.
She was born June 23, 1905, in Grover, S.D., to Paul and Minnie (Glocksein) Fuerstenau, the fourth of 15 children. She married Paul G. Krenz on Sept. 15, 1922. They were married for just over 50 years, until his death. On May 19, 1979, she married Roger Wilhelm.
Mrs. Wilhelm loved gardening, crocheting and music. She practiced reflexology, helping many of her friends and family.
She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She and her husband Paul were among the members who started and built Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bingen, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Previously she taught Sunday School at Immanuel Lutheran in Hood River.
She was loved by her large family, her church family and her many friends. She will be missed.
Mrs. Wilhelm was preceded in death by her husbands Paul Krenz and Roger Wilhelm, her parents, 13 of her brothers and sisters, and son Delbert A. Krenz.
Survivors include sons Robert Krenz, St. Helens, Ore., Kenneth Krenz, White Salmon, Carroll Krenz, San Jose, Calif., and Don Krenz, White Salmon; sister Bernice Peters, La Mirada, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 14 great, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bingen, with Rev. Paul Bundschuh officiating. Interment was at the White Salmon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.
ROSALEE BARBER
Rosalee Barber, a former White Salmon resident, died Feb. 28, 2003, at her home in Clarkston.
Mrs. Barber was born to Fred and Lena Harrison Whitefield on Dec. 9, 1932, in Garden Grove, Calif. She later moved to Glenwood, where she met and married Henry J. Dechand. They later divorced. In November 1968, she married Donald W. Barber in White Salmon. She worked at the Mt. Adams Elks Lodge for 25 years, where she held varying positions. She was also co-owner of the Salmon Bowl for 13 years. She was also the bookkeeper for Barber Construction.
Upon retirement in 1997, she and Mr. Barber moved to Clarkston.
Mrs. Barber enjoyed gardening, bird watching and climbing the family tree. She was known around White Salmon as a great hostess and enjoyed entertaining her family friends. She also enjoyed the many new friends she met in the Lewiston and Clarkston valley.
Mrs. Barber is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters Ginger Norconk, Beaverton, Ore., and Kathy Hobbs, San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Brandy Dechand, Jess Norconk, Vancouver, Michelle Heinaman and John Wayne Hobbs, both of Corpus Christi; five great-grandchildren; sisters Norma Grubb, White Salmon, Betty Lawrence, Nampa, Idaho, and Frances Bennett, Vancouver; brothers Bill Whitefield, Richland, and Robert Whitefield, Groveland, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Fred Jr. and Kenneth.
At her request, there will be no services.
