Jennifer Smith
Jennifer Smith departed this life on Jan. 6, 2005, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her brief life is filled with a winding trail of beautiful memories created by her delightful spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially by her husband of 18 years, Terry F. Smith, and daughters Lindsey and Danika, all of Odell, Ore.
Jennifer was born Dec. 6, 1965, in Tulsa, Okla. From 1977 to graduation in 1984 she enjoyed her teen years in Stigler, Okla., near her cousins and friends. She moved to Hood River, Ore., in 1985 to live with her sister, Avalon Totten. There she met Terry Smith from the Odell area, the love of her life. They were married in Muskogee, Okla., on Aug. 14, 1987.
She was the youngest of the five children of Isco Totten, Jr., and Mary Lynn (Roye) Totten. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Lynn Totten of Tulsa and four siblings, Valorey Totten and family of Tulsa, Okla., Miles Totten and family of Anchorage, Alaska, Avalon Totten-Denton and family of Hood River, and Anthony Totten and family of Hood River,
She enjoyed her eleven nieces and seven nephews and her home was always a bustling center of activity for all who visited. She is survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles and was preceded in death by her father, Isco Totten Jr. in 1972.
The highlight and joys of her life were her two daughters, Lindsey and Danika. Jennifer was a devoted mother and delighted in the daily activities of her darling daughters. Her bright smile was always visible and she beamed with pride as she watched her young daughters grow. When the young family grew very active in sports her life was filled with summers and weekends of traveling around the Northwest to attend basketball and softball tournaments. In her words she became a professional “bleacher bum,” very much enjoying the chance to be the scorekeeper and to root for her daughters and their teammates.
In the winter of 2004, she underwent her first chemotherapy treatment but didn’t let it get her down. That very spring she traveled to San Diego with the Hood River Valley High School girls’ softball team and had a lot of fun in the sun, sitting behind home plate.
She was a bus driver for the Hood River County School District. The heartfelt joy of the job was the involvement with children and the profound friendships she developed with her fellow employees.
We will all miss her dearly. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. at the Anderson Tribute Center in Hood River. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully request that contributions be made to the Jennifer Ann Smith Scholarship Fund for the benefit of her two daughters. Jose Solorio and Felicitas Arellanes
Jose Luis Solorio, Sr., 58, and Felicitas C. Arellanes, 51, were loving parents, loving grandparents, and most of all a loving husband and wife.
On Jan. 2, 2006, together they left this world to be with our Lord and Savior. There was never work too hard or work too long, for two people who loved all aspects of life.
Their generosity and selflessness were a full expression of how much they loved those around them, especially their children. No two people loved their children more. Both will await our arrival in the Kingdom of Heaven. There will never be another mother and father like them, with so much to offer their loved ones.
Family includes: children Vero, Junior; Ramon, Sergio, Malena, Esther, Silvia, Luisa, Toni, Carlos, and Anita. Grandchildren: Little Ray, Bryce, Dylan, Tono, Danna Paola, Roberto, Lupita, Angel, Carlos, Luis S., Elizabeth, Nayeli, Felix, Luis G., Ricardo, Maria Luisa and Jose Luis.
Funeral services were held at Anderson Tribute Center on Jan. 9.
