The Enterprise came home with three awards in the annual newspaper contest sponsored by the Seattle-based Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA).
In WNPA's "Best Editorial Page" category, The Enterprise won second place in statewide competition for the overall presentation of the opinion page.
In the "Best Editorial" category, editor Jesse Burkhardt snagged a second place prize for his editorial in the Dec. 6, 2007, issue of The Enterprise, "Amtrak rebirth in the Gorge?"
Judge's comments: "Logical editorial smoothly builds the case for return of Amtrak rail service to the south shore of the Columbia River."
In the "Best News Story" category, Burkhardt took third place for his Sept. 27, 2007, news story, "Family Flees; Escapes Flames," a report of the Broughton Mill Fire and the close call of the Dale Brooks family, whose home was destroyed by the flames.
Winners were announced during the WNPA's annual convention in Yakima, Oct. 4-5.
