A petition advocating that the dissolution of the current Lyle School District director districts be put to a vote was certified by the Klickitat County Auditor's Office on Monday.
Klickitat County Auditor Brenda Sorensen confirmed that the petition had received 384 signatures -- 12 more than the 372 signatures required to get the question on a ballot.
Vern Harpole, a semi-retired physician who has been leading the petition drive over the past several weeks, said that the certified petition was mailed to ESD 112 on Tuesday. ESD 112 will then write the question and send it to the auditor's office.
Harpole estimated that it would take "a couple of days" for ESD 112 to write the question. The intent is to have the question make it on November's General Election ballot. Sorensen said the deadline for receiving the question is Aug. 7 at 5 p.m.
The school district's director districts have not been redrawn since 1993. Proponents for redistricting want Lyle's current five geographic director districts to be dissolved and replaced with three geographic director districts and two-at large director positions.
