His Hood River Valley Swim Team coach dubbed his performance at last weekend's 2007 Oregon Swimming 11-14 Age Group Championships in Corvallis "the Scott Bergstrom Show."
And why not. The 12-year-old swimmer from Snowden had four top-eight finishes, set eight personal records and one team record, and qualified for next month's Age Group Sectional meet in two more events.
"This weekend it was the Scott Bergstrom Show," HRVST coach Shelly Rawding said. "He did great--all best times [in six events], plus his 100-yard butterfly time was a new HRVST 11-12 boys team record."
Bergstrom clocked the team record in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly. He completed four laps in 1 minute, 8 seconds, improving on Henry Burton's February 1999 standard by 91 hundredths of a second.
All told, Bergstrom swam in four finals. He placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly, seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle, seventh in the 500-yard freestyle and eighth in the 100-yard butterfly.
"Scott took off more than a minute and a half on his mile time, and qualified for Age Group Sectionals in the 50 fly and 100 fly," Rawding noted. "He already had the 500 free, so now he has three events for Federal Way in March."
