Attention book lovers! The Friends of the White Salmon Valley Community Library will host its annual Used Book and Multi-media Sale on Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17, in the library’s Sprint/Baker Gallery. While most hardbound books will be sold for $1, new this year will be a “Special Price” table featuring a small selection of books of the exceptionally high quality that will be individually priced. These items will still be a rare bargain, but will help the Friends raise a few extra dollars for library programs and materials for the community. Prices for other formats will be as follows: DVD, VHS and CDs, $1; trade paperbacks, 75 cents; mass paperbacks and music cassettes, 50 cents. On Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. there will be a “Special Pre-Sale” for members of the Friends of the Library (memberships will be available at the door). Again this year there will be no scanners allowed at the Thursday evening “Members Only Pre-Sale: event. Scanners are hand-held devices sometimes used by book sellers to determine the current selling price of particular books. The Friends have decided not to allow scanners at the Members Only Pre-Sale to level the playing field, and allow all members to participate in the pre-sale on an equal footing. The sale will be open to the general public Friday, March 16. from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon (with a short closure from 12 to 12:30) followed by a Bag Sale from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Each bag filled with books will be $1 during the Bag Sale! If you can’t make the Friends’ March Book Sale, remember to check out the Friends’ year-round Book Store located in the library .rary.where you can buy wonderful books throughout the year while supporting the Friends and the library. The Friends’ Book Store is open during all regular library hours. Donations for the book and multi-media sale are welcome. Proceeds from the book sale and the Friends’ Book Store are used to support special projects for the White Salmon Valley Community Library. Proceeds from past sales have been used to host programs such as the Washington Commission for the Humanities’ Inquiring Mind series, to purchase new materials for the library and to provide the beautiful landscaping on the south side of the library. Proceeds from the sale of all multi-media items will be used to support the local Teen Summer Reading program, and to enhance other teen library programs and resources at the White Salmon library. For further information please call the library, 493-1132.
