Problems involving the river crossing (new bridge) over the Columbia, a frontage road between Highway 35 and the Second Street exit on the north side of I-84, requiring the replacement of the bicycle/foot bridge with an auto/truck bridge, have all been addressed to a point, along with the city’s parking problem.

The first suggestion that comes to mind would be to replace the port’s, city’s and county’s engineers — then apply common sense, e.g.:

1) Build a second toll booth on the north end of the bridge for northbound traffic only.

2) Use the Park-and-Ride lot west of the north end of the bridge and the existing transportation systems for shuttle services.

3) Locate a parking facility (lot/structure) next to the C.A.T. office, plus a shuttle system.

4) Adopt a City of Hood River sales tax, equal to that of White Salmon.

5) Encourage Wal-Mart to build their super structure in White Salmon.
