I have just read your front page article (March 23) regarding Hood River Valley moving into the Intermountain Conference. I am very dismayed and quite upset with Dr. Jerry Sessions' comments.
I have attended numerous school board meetings, and not once was it mentioned by Dr. Sessions that if the district failed in its attempt to stay in the Mount Hood Conference if our State Board of Education appeal hearing failed, we would not proceed any further. In fact, board member Mike Oates asked of the board at a previous meeting what the district's plan of action would be if it failed in its attempt to stay in the Mount Hood Conference. While no formal vote was taken, the board did come to a consensus that legal action would be the next step in the battle from transferring to the Intermountain Conference.
Apparently Dr. Sessions prefers to play the pre-emptive political game in the press when it comes to interviews. I for one, am appalled that he would come out against the school board's wishes by doing a preemptive strike in this newspaper.
Dr. Sessions has already "RIF'd" one important position with regards to our athletic program. Now he is attempting to go against the school board's wishes and most of the general public's demands that we stay in the Mount Hood Conference without a decent fight.
I urge all readers of this letter to contact Dr. Sessions at Jsessions@hoodriver.k12.or.us. I also advise all parents to attend the next scheduled meeting on April 10, 7:30 p.m. at the district office. Let him know you are unhappy with his tactics and that a school administrator needs to be above board when dealing on issues regarding your children and their future. The transfer of your students to the Intermountain Conference will affect your family's quality time, tax dollars, school work, and safety. It is not an issue to let go of so easily.
