Caleb Huth's second 3-point basket of Monday's game against the Castle Rock junior varsity gave the host Columbia High jayvee the lead for good on its way to a 58-55 overtime victory.
The Junior Bruins (11-2) trailed by 10 points with just under 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter and by eight with 1:30 to go in the game but weren't to be denied.
Huth made sure by banking in a 3-pointer from the left wing at the buzzer to tie the game at 49 and cap a 10-2 closing run by Columbia.
In the 4-minute extra period, Mark Lovrin scored four points on free throws, Huth tallied three and Dylan Rabinowitz had two on a putback for CHS, which got the win only after Castle Rock stole a long pass in its backcourt with 3 seconds left and had a 3-point try spoon out.
Lovrin led the Junior Bruins with 23 points (including 11-of-13 free throws), Rabinowitz scored 12, Felix Torres had 10 and Huth added six.
The Junior Bruins held a 12-8 lead after one quarter but fell behind 28-25 by halftime and faced a 37-30 deficit entering the final quarter.
In that final period, however, Lovrin scored nine of CHS's 19 points to ignite the comeback that culminated in Huth's big three following a White Salmon timeout with 3 seconds to play.
At Columbia JV 64, Kalama JV 52:
Mark Lovrin made 15-of-18 free throws in the fourth quarter and scored a career-high 41 points overall to lead the Junior Bruins to victory here last Friday.
Lovrin had 17 points in the second half alone as the Junior Bruins outscored the Small Fry, 39-34.
Felix Torres contributed eight points (including six on a pair of 3s), Bruno Maya scored five, Caleb Huth and Dylan Rabinowitz each chipped in four and Chris Kennedy had two for CHS, which converted 30-of-39 shots from the foul line.
At Columbia JV 81, Rochester JV 53:
The Junior Bruins had a breakout game offensively in their Jan. 15 meeting with the Warriors jayvee.
Mark Lovrin led the way with 28 points on a night all 11 CHS players scored at least two points and combined to make 12-of-18 free throws.
Dylan Rabinowitz supported the CHS cause with 12 points, Felix Torres and Bruno Maya tallied eight apiece and Neal LaGrander scored six.
Also scoring for CHS were: Joshua Mayer 5, Enrique Granados 4, Jose Briones 3, Caleb Huth 3, Jordon Barnedt 2 and Chris Kennedy 2.
The Junior Bruins broke the game open in the second quarter with 18 points that left them in charge, 36-21, at halftime.
In the second half, CHS outscored Rochester, 45-32, to win going away.
