HRV track ready for IMC district meet after Hermiston tune-up

And, based on the final tally, coach Shawn Meyle and his staff have much to look forward to.

“We had some great performances in our last meet before the varsity district meet,” Meyle said. “We are in fine-tuning mode and into our taper for the district meet. We just need to focus and let it happen.”

Because of the taper, not all the varsity competitors participated in their choice events. However, that also gave the junior varsity team members one last opportunity to compete and set personal records.

Leading the way for the boys team were seniors Ben Albright and Jon Gehrig, who each set PR’s in their banner events. Albright ran to a fourth-place finish in both the 100 and 200 meters, setting PR’s of 11.35 seconds and 23.34 seconds in the process.

Gehrig also had one of his best outings of the season, taking third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.30.

Teammates Mitchell Bohn and Jeff Fisher also ran to PR’s in the 800, with times of 2:05.45 and 2:07.45, respectively.

Sophomore Alex Jimenez earned a fifth place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:29.60, while junior Mike Weber won the pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches) and took fifth in the javelin (132 feet, 1 inch).

For the girls, junior Anna Hidle ran the fastest 100-meter time of the season for HRV with a 12.93 seconds, good for third place overall. Teammate Suni Davis was right behind her at 12.98, while Kristen Hedges (13.13) and Emily Meyer (13.14) placed 7th and 9th, respectively.

Freshman Katie Price impressed her coaches with a PR of 27.54 in the 200 meters. She also took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 28 feet, 11 inches.

Jessica Wienholt, Audra Cody and Jennifer Jeffries also had PR’s in the 200 meters.

Additional PR’s on the day were turned in by Matt Coerper in the 100 meters (11.56), Andrew Halliday in the 200 meters, Fernando Ochoa in the 3.000, Adam Brown in the long jump (18’03”), Matt McDougal in the discus (104’06”) and Colby Goe in the shot put (26’06”).

Meyle also commented on strong performances by Ben Wadman, Jacob Thorton, Travis Moore, Ian Meyer, Erik Hidle, Janne Lucas, Jenna Fisher and Danielle Bohn.
