The July Birthday Luncheon was held at the Elkhorn Restaurant in White Salmon Wednesday, July 18. Forty ladies helped Penny, Clara, Dorothy, and Mickie celebrate their birthdays. The food was excellent and we enjoyed readings and a song. This was the largest group to share stories, music, visiting and just enjoying the company of everyone at our monthly luncheon. If you would like to join us each month, let Marcella know at 365-2882.
Lyle History, con't.: "After 35 years with Shell Oil Company for Syd, and 30 years for Letha as an Avon representative, they are now both retired. They have a beautiful home in Lyle, which overlooks Memaloose Island, Mt. Hood, and the Columbia Gorge. They have one son Oren, who lives in Champaign, Ill. A daughter, Jean Simonds, her husband who resides in Hood River, and three children, Ronnie, Traci, and Chris. They also have a foster son, Dr. Alexander W. Flynt, of Fort Meyers, Fla., known as "Lucky." He has two children."
"Both love the outdoors and beautiful scenery, and both enjoy all types of recreation and have had the pleasure of traveling throughout the world, but they still say there is no place like their home here in Lyle. They enjoy people and like to give a helping hand to their friends and neighbors."
The preceeding history was taken from an article written in 1982 in the Lyle Pioneer Days paper. Both Syd and Letha have passed away and Oren is now living in Lyle.
