Klickitat overcame a sluggish start last Friday to defeat Trout Lake/Glenwood 54-34 and clinch second place in the Greater Columbia B League's 1B Division.
With the homecoming night victory, the Vandals (13-7) secured the No. 2 seed in the YVIAA district tournament, which began Tuesday in Klickitat.
Melissa Huwe led the way for Klickitat, putting together a stat line of 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Aryn Davis contributed a double-double of 13 rebounds and 10 points.
Kim Poland scored 12 points and Katie Yarnell had 10 for TLG, the No. 3 seed in this week's district tourney.
The Mustangs (9-10) entered the game with a chance to catch the Vandals in the standings and set the upset in motion by taking a 16-4 lead after one quarter.
Klickitat narrowed the gap to 24-17 by halftime, however, and took the lead by outscoring TLG 18-7 in the third quarter.
The Vandals made sure the Mustangs didn't catch up by winning the fourth quarter 19-3.
At Riverside Christian 60, Lyle 27:
The Crusaders made six of their first 12 field-goal attempts last Friday and built a commanding 22-5 lead at the end of one quarter.
"Riverside came out ready to play and took it to us from the start," said Cougars Coach Chris Barthlow, whose team was playing its third game in four days.
Moreover, he noted, "We had some girls get in foul trouble (while defending inside shots or battling for rebounds) and it really took its toll on us."
Riverside (6-3, 13-7) capitalized on Lyle's charity by sinking 20-of-33 free throws.
For Lyle (1-7, 4-11), Brittney Johnson had a team-high 11 points to go with seven rebounds. Joelle Jackson and Jessica Struck added 10 and eight rebounds respectively.
In other action, the Lyle jayvee rallied from a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter to edge Riverside 22-21.
At Trout Lake/Glenwood 53, Bickleton 40:
The Mustangs outscored the Pirates 31-12 in the middle quarters last Saturday to win the regular-season finale for both teams.
Kim Poland scored 15 points and Kindra Van Laar had 13 for TLG, which was scheduled to face Bickleton again on Tuesday in the first round of district play.
Katelynn Clinton tallied 13 points for the Pirates (5-10), who led 10-9 after one quarter but fell behind 24-19 at halftime and mustered just three points in the third stanza.
Klickitat 72, at Yakama Tribal 45:
Aryn Davis and Melissa Huwe combined for 30 points and 42 rebounds as the Vandals won their final game of the regular season last Saturday.
Davis finished with 17 points, 23 rebounds and eight assists, while Huwe accounted for 13 points, 19 rebounds and four assists.
Trisheena Keys also played a big role in the Vandals' victory, scoring a game-high 21 points to go with five assists.
Kali Linville added 12 points and Samantha Brewer chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds for Klickitat, which opened up a 23-9 lead in the opening quarter and steadily pulled away.
Klickitat 64, at Lyle 24:
Kali Linville tossed in a career-high 20 points and Aryn Davis had 16 points, 16 rebounds and five steals Jan. 31 to lead the Vandals to the non-league win.
Melissa Huwe added 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Trisheena Keys provided 14 points and eight assists for Klickitat, which totaled 18 assists and made 10-of-14 shots from 3-point range and 23 of 54 overall.
"Kali had her best all-around game so far," Vandals Coach Traci Kessinger said.
Linville recorded four rebounds, four steals and five assists and went a career-best 6 for 8 from the 3-point line. Keys was just as deadly from long range, going 4 for 6 in a game the Vandals led 34-13 at halftime.
"Kali and Trisheena really made us pay with their great shooting from outside the arc," noted Cougars Coach Chris Barthlow. "They were hitting shots both wide open and with people closing out on them and getting a hand up."
For the Cougars, Jessica Struck scored nine points and Joelle Jackson had six points and six rebounds.
At Lyle 46, Yakama Tribal 30:
Rebounding and balanced scoring made the difference for the Cougars in their Jan. 30 non-league victory over the Eagles.
Lyle hauled in 54 rebounds and Brittney Johnson collected the first double-double of her career, finishing with a career-high 12 points and a team-best 11 rebounds.
Joelle Jackson also posted a double-double for Lyle, going for 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Jessica Struck added nine points and 10 rebounds, and Kiera Murphy chipped in with 10 rebounds.
"We controlled the boards and it really dictated the game for us," Cougars Coach Chris Barthlow said. "Having three players in double figures for rebounds was really great for us and showed that we were attacking the boards at both ends of the court."
Lyle used its rebounding advantage to build on a 14-10 halftime lead.
Moreover, the Cougars got their offense going in the second half by spreading the court and forcing the Eagles to come out and defend them away from the basket.
"We scored 32 second-half points and it was by far the best half of basketball we've played all year," Barthlow noted.
