Underwood Conservation District (UCD) will be giving out free conifer seedlings to the public on Wednesday, April 12.
Locations for the Arbor Day tree giveaway are the Park Center Building at 170 NW Lincoln St. in White Salmon and the Skamania County Chamber of Commerce in downtown Stevenson.
This event is sponsored by UCD, Lava Nursery in Parkdale, Ore., Skamania County Chamber of Commerce, and the cities of White Salmon and Stevenson.
Up to 10 free seedlings per person will be distributed to individuals wishing to enhance their forestland, improve wildlife habitat or beautify their home landscapes. Species available include Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, grand fir, western red cedar, incense cedar, western white pine and giant sequoia.
Traditionally, Arbor Day has been celebrated across the country in recognition of the value of trees and forests in our everyday lives.
UCD will have hand-made, wooden bird and bat boxes available on Arbor Day as well. UCD has various kinds of boxes for different birds. There is a fee for the boxes.
Persons interested in free conifer seedlings, planting advice, bird and bat boxes, or other assistance involving land, water and wildlife conservation, can drop by the UCD office in the White Salmon Park Center or the Skamania County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, April 12, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., or while quantities last.
For more information, call the UCD office in White Salmon at 493-1936.
