United Way of the Columbia Gorge benefit concert
The United Way of the Columbia Gorge will host a benefit concert on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. featuring The Rick Hulett Band, a fun quartet with lots of firepower and a great groove. The event will be held in the soon to be new Cascade Acupuncture Center clinic location in The Dalles (1712 E. 12th St.). Suggested donation at the door is $5-$20. There will be a silent auction of items donated by local businesses, wine by Dry Hollow Vineyards and appetizers by ANZAC Tea Parlour.
Weekend music at Meadows
Enjoy live local music at Mt. Hood Meadows this February. Events are held at the Vertical Pizzeria Saturdays and Sundays, from 3-6:30 p.m. Feb. 5: Moonhouse Trio: They incorporate many genres of music into unique style that is subtle yet pleasant and a refreshing change from the norm. Feb. 6: Superbowl Party! Feb. 12-13: Scott Law: Guitarist, songwriter-composer and singer, freely ranges over the entire history of blues, rock and bluegrass guitar. Feb 26-27: The Hen House Prowlers: Dedicated equally to tradition and innovation, they center their sound on the early, formative years of bluegrass with a largely original repertoire. In addition, there's music in the Alpenstube on Fridays from 3-6 p.m. Feb. 11 and 25: Matt Messier & Company; Feb. 4 and 18: Les Vaughn.
'Love Your Life' Feb. 12
Glassometry Studios hosts a "Love Your Life" party on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 6-10 p.m. Get in the mood for Valentine's with a glass sculpture display, glassblowing demonstrations, a belly dance performance, handcrafted desserts, live acoustic music and a raffle to benefit Columbia Arts. 'Larry' at Everybody's Feb. 4
On Friday, Feb. 4, it's the return of Bend area punk string-band Larry and His Flask. "The band's new songs are a blurry blend of lightning fast string-band picking, gorgeous nods to old-school country, and sublime multi-part harmonies, all presented through a prism of punk chaos." 'Decisions': Five one-acts
Columbia Center for the Arts and CAST Theater present the cure for your winter blues: "Decisions, Decisions, Decisions," presents five unique perspectives on how we make decisions. Flowing together through all the stages of our lives, the evening is full of ironic twists of fate and shifting consequences. Regarding love, life, sex, baseball, politics and business, it's an endorphin rush.
This show offers a fresh perspective from five new directors. This show opens Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. with shows continuing Feb. 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. There will be a special two-for-one ticket price for the Thursday, Feb. 17 showing. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, $8 for children 11 and under and $10 for groups of 10 or more.
Whitewater film fest Feb. 16
On Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. plan on joining Columbia Center for the Arts for the premier of the new movie "Wildwater," by Anson Fogel and Doug Ammons, described as "the first great whitewater river film, showing the art of paddling, the sheer beauty of rivers, and how they change us." World-class kayaker Doug Ammons will be your host for the evening providing insight into all the films. Four additional short films for the evening will include: "The Ashlu," "Run Rogue Run," "Seasons: Fall Kayaking the White Salmon River with Kate Wagner" and "The Great Migration." Skip Armstrong will be on hand for questions and answers as well as an American Rivers representative. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
Mike Stillman at HR Hotel
There's local music at the Hood River Hotel this week with jazz from Mike Stillman and friends on Friday, Feb. 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the lobby. Join us for unofficial First Friday at The Pines on Feb. 4, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Listen to the eclectic tunes of musician Eric John Kaiser, playing everything from classical French songs to an interesting take on Sweet Home Alabama. On Saturday, Feb. 5, from 7-10 p.m., ring in the Year of the Rabbit with the Pines crowd.
