Well, here it is late September and we're now deeply into the election campaign season.
That means our "letters to the editor" section is going to be exploding with letters from voters who want to explain why they support a particular candidate and urge you to do the same.
We love those letters, and we will strive to print every one. Some weeks, we may have room to do a page and a half or even two pages if necessary to get them all in, but until we begin putting the paper together each week, we can't be sure we will have any extra room.
With that in mind, we urge writers to remember to keep letters within the 400-word limit. Excessively long letters may get shelved, as we want to have room for as many people to have their say as possible. Lengthy letters are also subject to editing, and we prefer to have letter writers streamline their own letters.
Also, please remember that we will not run attack or negative commentaries against any candidate in the last issue before Election Day on Nov. 2. This policy is designed to allow a candidate or a candidate's supporters time to respond to an attack. This year, the final issue for negative messages would be Oct. 21. Letters in support or praise of a particular candidate, however, can run any time.
