Mill A School has approximately three acres of forested land adjoining the playground to the east called the "Little Forest."
Over the past year Andy Rogers, a former Mill A student now attending Stevenson High School, has spent a considerable amount of time working on the Little Forest.
As a part of his Eagle Scout project, Rogers, with the help of Mill A students, friends, fellow scouts and scout masters Alan Rogers and Stan Horack, have made the Little Forest a safer, cleaner and more appealing place to walk, sit and/or picnic.
Rogers began his project by meeting with school employees and developing a plan. He then took the plan to the school district's board of directors, which expressed its support for the project.
"Andy and his fellow scouts provided a real service to the school and community with the work they've completed," said Johanna Roe, who chairs the board of directors.
Rogers and Scout Troop No. 360 have widened and cleaned up the trail, removed unsafe and dead trees, and improved the bridges (including making them wheel-chair accessible) that span the small creek that meanders through the forest.
Rogers, who also made a picnic table and cleared out a spot in the middle of the forest for picnics, thanked SDS Lumber and Columbia Hardware, which donated wood for the bridges and picnic table. The Eagle Scout candidate is the son of Angela and Alan Rogers of Mill A.
