During the month of July, the City of White Salmon's water distribution system may experience an excessive level of sediments present in the tap water which might cause the presence of discolored water in some homes.
The public works crew will be flushing during the hours of 10 a.m. till about 3 p.m. so you might wait till after any discolored water is cleared up, until you do your laundry.
City Hall staff members will answer any customer reports of "dirty" water until 5 p.m and forward them to the operator on call.
The incident of sediments may be caused by an increased flow of water into the distribution system by city crews who will conduct a flushing program. The flushing of fire hydrants and operation of water valves stirs up sediments within the pipes. These sediments are comprised of organic matter, film, rust and harmless microbes.
The flushing program will be conducted from July 1 until July 31. Within moments after flushing each hydrant, the city crews will be able to isolate water valves and restore the water distribution system to normal.
Although the aesthetic quality of the water may be affected, the safety of the water will NOT be compromised. No contaminants will enter the distribution system as a result of this event.
