PORTLAND (AP) — Cell phone conversations on board jetliners after takeoff? No way, says Oregon U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, who has long resisted cell chatter in cabins.

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said Thursday there’s no technical reason to keep the ban. DeFazio says texting and Internet browsing would be OK. But in a statement he worried about flight attendants distracted in emergencies by “a hot-headed passenger who refuses to end an inappropriate conversation.”
