Labor Day is nearly here, and that means the elections season will begin in earnest.
The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 8 General Election is Oct. 18.
Hood River County Elections Supervisor Kim Kean advised that anyone traveling for the winter or going away for college prior to ballots being mailed should visit the Elections Office to update their voter registration with their absentee address so her office can get a ballot to them in a timely manner.
The office is located in the County Administration Building at Sixth and State streets, and the telephone number is 541-386-1442.
Ballots for out of state voters are mailed earlier than in-county ballots, and ballots are not forwardable.
Out of country and military ballots will be mailed Sept. 23; out-of-state ballots will be mailed Oct. 10, and in-state ballots will be mailed Oct. 19.
Meanwhile, city races in Cascade Locks and Hood River are now known. The municipal filing deadline was Aug. 26.
In Hood River, incumbent council members Mark Zanmiller, Tim Counihan and Kate McBride filed for office, as did Megan Saunders, who had applied this summer for the council vacancy which Counihan was appointed.
In Cascade Locks, Mayor Tom Cramblett filed for a third term, and he will get a challenge from Joseph Shelley.
Council incumbents Bruce Fitzpatrick, Glenda Groves, and Bobby Walker filed, along with Nicole Crites, Joshua Harestad, Katelin Stuart, and Carl Zerfing. (Council Member Kevin Rutherford did not file for re-election.)
