The Next Door, Inc. (NDI) is currently looking for families who would like to provide foster care to teens in southern Klickitat County.
These families will be working with NDI to provide short-term foster care (three to six months) for youth ages 11 to 17. All of the kids in care with NDI are in need of a stable, caring home for a short period of time.
While being a foster parent is not easy, it is truly rewarding beyond anything you can imagine.
One of foster parents shared this, "There is no way to describe the warm feeling that you get when one of your previous foster children calls or stops by just to say hi. To let you know what they are doing and that they are all right. You realize that you made an important difference in their life."
People often ask what is a typical foster parent? There are no typical foster parents. Foster parents come from all backgrounds, all professions, and all family types. There are married and single foster parents. There are those who live in cities and those who live in rural areas. Foster parents all share one thing, and that is the desire to help kids.
Foster parents with NDI receive state certification as well as specialized training to work with the troubled teens in the program.
In order to help foster parents be successful, NDI also provides on-call support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to the training and certification, foster parents also receive $1000 to $1200 per month to help offset the costs of providing care.
