The Community sends a thank you to Mr. Vorce and Mildred Lykens for cleaning up and weed-eating the ditch along State Route 14 and "Lyle Park Place" fence. Remember April 13 and 14 are Lyle Community Clean-up Days so let's fill another "record load" of dumpsters and make our community look great!
Condolences go to Cathy Holguin, and Adam and Andrea Ekman. Cathy's granddaughter and Adam and Andrea's new born baby girl passed away this past Friday.
April 21, Charlotte's Web will be the free movie at the Lyle Middle School. "New" spring start time of 7 p.m.
The PUD and Sheriff Rick McComas will be attending the community council meeting on Monday, April 23. The PUD will be addressing rate changes. The sheriff has requested that the community let him know of any questions and concerns before that evening, if you have a subject you wish him to address please contact any council member. Let's pack the meeting and flood them with questions.
Churches in Lyle are the Lyle United Methodist Church, 403 Klickitat St. Church Service, and Lyle Celebration Center, 715 Washington St.
Excerpts from Washington Historical Quarterly (date unknown): "Egbert French, who with his Indian wife had settled at an early date at the mouth of the Klickitat River, sold their land in 1866 to James Oliver Lyle. Mr. French moved to Goldendale and started a store there. Mr. Lyle was a native of Pennsylvania. He came to California in 1853, and then returned to Iowa, where he married Mrs. Martha (Snipes) Corsal in 1857. They crossed the plains in 1863 and settled at Rowena, OR. They moved across the Columbia to Klickitat Landing and engaged in stock business."
"Other settlers came in later but a stock country does not fill up rapidly. Among the early settlers we find the names of Levitt, Whitcomb, Gilliam, Snider, Spencer, Hewett, Hensell, Rothrock, Van Bibber, Higby, Bach, Shippy, Campbell, Boni, Conklin, Daffron, Barlow, Silva, Tupper, O'Neil, and many others."
