With a 3-1 vote on Feb. 2, the White Salmon City Council reaffirmed its earlier decision to annex 1.06 acres of residential property belonging to David and Leslie Ball, 80 El Camino Real, into the city of White Salmon.
The council, which had originally approved the annexation with a 4-1 vote on Dec. 1, needed to take another vote because the legal description of the annexed property had not included the portion of the road that passes the Ball property.
"We were annexed into the city, and the state came back [regarding the need to annex part of the street], so there was no circumvention of due process," David Ball explained. "It was simply a clerical error, not of our doing."
Several neighborhood residents raised objections to the proposed annexation, as had been the case at the Dec. 1 meeting. Opponents of the annexation said they were concerned about potential subdivision of the parcel, excessive development of the property, encroachment on utility easement, and added traffic on adjacent streets.
The vote to annex was 3-1, with council member Susan Benedict in opposition.
