White Salmon United Methodist Church will welcome Lasana Kanneh to its March 20 Sunday morning service at 10:30 a.m.
Kanneh was born in Liberia, Africa and will share his remarkable testimony as well as performing his special style of music he calls IJenNey (eye gin nay), which means heaven.
It is a unique blend of African, reggae and gospel. Kanneh has directed and been the lead vocal in many groups such as Echoes of the Blind, Liberian Acappella and African Gospel Acappella.
A U.S. tour of Liberian Acappella brought Kanneh to the Grand Ole Opry which was a highlight for the group. While the former groups were all acappella, Lasana has added instruments to the new music. This has created a totally unique and original style that cannot be contained in any one genre.
Kanneh suffered much in his native homeland of Liberia. He was born blind and ostracized by his community for this disability. He was eventually abandoned at the school for the blind in Monrovia where God intervened and an Evangelist took him home and preached the good news to him. Following his conversion he could never return to his village. He escaped war persecution, poverty and personal failure to bring you these beautiful songs of faith, hope and restoration.
