Columbia High batters cranked out 15 hits and walked 12 times last Thursday in a 26-3 non-league baseball victory over South Wasco County, in Maupin, Ore.
Jared McDonald (2/6) and Kyle Yeager (3/4, double) each drove in six runs, Taylor Champion (3/6) knocked in four and Dane Bargabus (2/2, double) had three runs batted in for the Bruins, who scored 13 runs in the first inning and nine in the third of the five-inning game.
Kevin Kreps, Danny Giron and Jason Collins were on base more often than not for CHS (1-1). Kreps had two hits, one a double, and scored five runs. Giron hit a double and a single, and scored four times. Collins walked four times, was hit by a pitch and also tallied four runs.
The win went to reliever Felix Torres, who allowed two earned runs in two innings. He combined with starter Champion and reliever Milla Caldwell for 11 strikeouts and six walks.
At Ridgefield 10, Columbia High 4:
The Bruins scored first and led 2-1 until the Spudders rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth last Wednesday.
The loss went to Taylor Champion, who yielded all eight runs--four earned--in relief of starter Jared McDonald (4 innings, 5 hits, 1 run on a home run leading off the third).
Columbia (0-1) staked McDonald to a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run single by Danny Giron (2/4).
The Bruins' last two runs came home in the seventh on a pinch-hit single by Milla Caldwell.
Kalama 8, at Columbia High 2:
The visiting Chinooks parlayed two hits and six Bruins errors into a non-league win at Hecomovich Field Monday afternoon.
Kalama manufactured its first three runs--two in the third, one in the fifth--off losing pitcher Jared McDonald, who exited after five innings with his team trailing 3-0.
The Chinooks added five runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 8-1.
Columbia (1-2), which collected three hits but struck out 15 times, got its runs from singles by Dane Bargabus in the fifth and Jason Collins in the seventh.
