On Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m., kids of all ages are invited to the White Salmon Vally Community Library to celebrate the Latin American holiday Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos).
Day of the Dead has been celebrated throughout the Americas for thousands of years as a way to honor and remember loved ones who have passed on.
Learn more about the celebration and enjoy traditional Mexican dance by the local dance troupe, Danza Guadalupana, sugar skull decorating and more!
On Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m., adults and youth will continue enjoy learning about Day of the Dead from local scholar, Anne Key Ph.D. who will present on the indigenous roots of the celebration and demonstrate how to create your own home altar.
Key has her doctorate degree in philosophy and religion, with a specialization in women's spirituality. Her academic expertise, and personal passion, is Mesoamerican religion. She has been studying and participating in Day of the Dead rituals, in both Mexico and the U.S., since 1989.
