A strong defensive effort in the second quarter last Saturday helped Trout Lake/Glenwood win the girls championship game of the Mt. Adams Shootout, 34-20.
The Eagles (2-0) outscored Horizon Christian, 8-1, to turn a one-point lead after one quarter into a 14-6 halftime advantage.
From that point, TLG only increased its lead, capping its strong opening weekend of play with an 11-point fourth quarter.
Dave'y Lumley and TLG co-captain Kim Poland led the way for the Eagles. Each scored eight points to share game-high honors. Stephanie Ryan's six points paced the visitors from Hood River.
TLG 39, Christian Faith 33:
Trout Lake/Glenwood came from behind in the fourth quarter last Friday to win its semifinal pairing with Christian Faith of Seattle.
The Eagles overcame a 30-26 third-quarter deficit by outscoring the visiting team, 13-3, in the final period.
TLG's big closing run included 3-point baskets by Kindra VanLaar and Kim Poland.
VanLaar led all scorers with a game-high 12 points, including 10 in the second half, and Poland chipped in 11.
Eight of Poland's points came in the opening stanza, when the Eagles jumped out to an 11-9 lead.
TLG's shots stopped falling in the second quarter, however, as Christian Faith rallied and built a 20-13 halftime advantage.
But the Eagles weren't to be denied in their bid to earn TLG Coach Roger Huffsmith his first victory.
Led by VanLaar (10 points) and Dave'y Lumley (8 points), TLG staged its own comeback and won the second half, 26-13.
