A panel of Washington state sportswriters recently named Lyle High School pitcher/shortstop Mitzi McMurrin to its 2003 Class B all-state fastpitch softball first team as an outfielder.
McMurrin, who'll be a senior next school year, helped lead the Cougars to their first state tournament appearance in 2003 with her bat and her arm.
A pair of Columbia High baseball players received similar recognition.
Sportswriters selected senior-to-be Jason Carlock for the utility role on the Class 2A all-state second team.
Teammate Eric Crause, a 2003 graduate, received honorable mention as an outfielder.
