The 15th Annual H.U.G.S. Fair will be held March 3 at Henkle Middle School in White Salmon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
H.U.G.S. stands for Help Us Grow Safely. Over the years, it has grown to become a well-known community resource for information on helping children stay healthy, active and safe.
Festive and fun, hundreds of families from all over the Mid-Columbia Gorge come and learn about electricity and water safety, good nutrition, exercise, fire prevention and other important topics.
Information from over 40 exhibitors is presented in a lively, hands-on setting that catches the attention of children. Participants can visit an ambulance and fire truck, then meet McGruff the Crime Dog, Elliot the Elephant, Sophie the Otter, the Crash Test Dummies and Smokey the Bear. A Scholastic Book Fair also takes place at the Henkle Middle School Library.
Music and entertainment is provided throughout the day, free healthy snacks are provided, and there are dozens of door prizes available.
There is no charge to attend. Donations of canned or non-perishable food will be accepted at the door to help the local food bank.
The H.U.G.S. Fair is a project supported by Washington State University-Klickitat County Extension/4-H, Henkle Middle School A.S.B., Project Open Door, Skamania Klickitat Community Network and Klickitat County Public Health Department.
Local businesses and civic organizations contribute door prizes and funds to help support and sustain the event.
