Alexa Macias scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second half, and Sammi Ghramm added all of her 12 points in the opening half to lead the Dufur Rangers to a 50-41 victory Tuesday in a girl’s basketball tilt in Lyle, Wash.
Through the contest, the Rangers outscored Lyle in every quarter of play, as the first quarter started off on a right note with a 16-12 spurt.
Dufur kept the momentum going in the second and third quarters with outputs of 11-10 and 13-11 to swell the lead out to a 40-33 margin entering the final period.
All told, Dufur hit 21 field goals, including two three-point hoops to go along with 6 of 14 from the charity stripe.
Montana Ferres rattled off 10 points, Hannah Harris kicked in five of her seven points in the fourth quarter, and Teneille McDonald scored two points.
“Offensively, we were able to get the ball inside and score in the painted area,” said Dufur coach Hollie Darden. “I thought we had a good all-around game. We got points from our transition game, 3-pointers and some decent mid-range shooting.”
Although his group is undefeated 4-0 early in the season, Darden still desires some sharpening up on a few details.
One thing he is happy about is the effort.
“We are working hard on our defensive rebounding. We need to do a better job on that end,” Darden said. “Overall, the girls are working hard. We still need to fine tune a few things, but I think we are on the right path.”
Dufur (4-0 overall) hosts Echo at 6 p.m. Friday for the start of Big Sky hoops action.
