THE DALLES golfer Brooke McCall lines up her putt attempt on the sixth hole of tournament action this season at The Dalles Country Club. On Thursday at Meadowlakes Golf Course in Prineville, McCall carded a 105 and the Riverhawks combined for a 429 as a team to secure fifth place.
The Dalles sophomore Iliana Telles had three birdies and 10 pars through 18 holes to tie her personal-best with a 76 and a tie for second-place honors in the individual standings at the Crook County Invitational Golf Tournament at Meadowlakes Golf Course in Prineville.
TD head coach Dan Telles said Meadowlakes presented a fair share of challenges for the golfers, with greens that were difficult to judge on a course with water hazards throughout, so keeping shots straight were a priority.
Coming off a personal record Monday, Brooke McCall shot a 54-51 for a 105, one stroke higher than her previous score, and Abby Walker added a 71 on the back-9 to score a 134.
Making a return to the starting lineup, Jennifer Bonham had a 56 on the front-9 and a 58 on the final nine holes and a 114, a 15-stroke improvement from her opening tournament on March 17 in The Dalles.
“Players played well, especially since three of them never played the course before, coupled with the water hazards coming in to play on 12 of 18 holes,” coach Telles said.
Iliana Telles, 2014 state qualifier, had two of her birdies on the back-9 for a 38 to end up even with Summit’s Sarah Heinly with her 76.
That duo however, could not catch Summit’s Madison Odiorne, who shot a two-under par 34 on the back-9 for an even-par 72 to secure medalist status.
Rachel Drgastin, out of Summit, finished fourth with her 78 and teammate Alyssa Kerry placed fifth after an 81 to help Summit to a team tournament title at 307.
Bend’s Holly Froelich and Mountain View’s Ellen Nopp each carded 83s to round out the top-7.
Staked by the efforts of Froelich, Bend ended up second in the team rankings at 363.
Crook County (382), Mountain View (397), The Dalles (429) and Ridgeview (436) completed the rest of the standings.
The Dalles next hits Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River for a 10 a.m. start on Wednesday.
Hawk boys claim fourth place
Chase Snodgrass carded a 77 for seventh place individually, and The Dalles boys’ golf team combined for a 355 to secure fourth place at the Wildhorse Invitational Tournament in Pendleton.
Snodgrass’ score was six shots behind overall medalist Reilly Hegarty, of Pendleton, who had a one-under par 71.
Hermiston’s Zac Adams ended up third with his 75 and there was a four-way split for fourth place with Brayden Pulfor (Pendleton), Keegan Crafton (Hermiston), Rhet Levin (Richland, Wash.) and Nick Yamaguchi (Richland, Wash.) each turning in scorecards reading 76.
After Snodgrass, senior Coby Conlee had one of his better scores of the year of 82 and Mark Felderman, who shot a 79 at Ridgeview on April 3, struggled to find his groove and ended the day with a 95.
Darsh Patel had a 101 and Colton Lee stroked out a 130 to round out the Riverhawk golfers.
Pendleton won the team tournament with a 309, jumping ahead of Richland, Wash. by six strokes (315).
Hermiston (326), The Dalles (355), Hanford, Wash. (362), DeSales, Wash. (366), Baker City (370), Mac-Hi (371), La Grande (381) and Hood River Valley (479) capped the overall team rankings.
TD head coach Kent Smith is looking forward to his team cutting more shots down to get closer to Hermiston.
Felderman just had an off day and both Snodgrass and Conlee have been keeping up a sustained effort.
“Mark had a bad day. That is all you can say. I know he is a good golfer, better than the 95 he shot today,” Smith said. “The best thing he can do is put this behind him and work on being more consistent. I know he can turn it around and help the team lower their scores.”
The Dalles plays in a junior varsity tournament at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Dalles Country Club.
At noon on Wednesday, the varsity teams hits the greens again on China Creek Golf Course in Arlington.
