Traffic stop yields meth, heroin

He was arrested for probation violation – driving violated his probation, Macnab said – and officers gained information as they inventoried his vehicle for seizure incident to the arrest.

That information led to officers with the Mid-Columbia Interagency Narcotics Task Force writing a search warrant, which, when executed, led to the discovery of 38 grams of heroin and 825 grams of methamphetamine. Macnab said the heroin was equal to 380 street level deals worth over $7,000, and the methamphetamine was equal to over 3,000 street level deals and had a street value of over $82,000.

Also found in the vehicle were a scale, weights, a spoon and packing materials. Found on Snyder’s person was $1,230 in cash.

Snyder was later charged with unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, unlawful delivery of heroin, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of heroin.

Snyder was driving while suspended and without insurance, Macnab said. His vehicle was going to be towed as a hazard, which led to the tow inventory process, he said.

“Over an ounce of heroin is a significant amount of heroin out there,” Macnab said. “And right now we’re seeing an increase in the quantities of meth and heroin out there, and as a result, I believe we’re also seeing an increase in property crimes like burglaries and thefts.”

Snyder was previously arrested in 1998 in The Dalles for possession of a controlled substance.

Macnab said Snyder frequents the area.

Patrol officers from The Dalles Police Department, along with detectives from MINT, The Dalles Police Department and Hood River County Sheriffs’ Office were involved in the investigation.
