MID-COLUMBIA Fire and Rescue was called to the scene of a mobile home fire late Monday morning but was unable to save the older structure. The manufactured home in the Viewpoint Trailer Part on the eastern edge of town was fully engulfed in flames with black smoke pouring from the windows when firefighters arrived at the scene. The blaze burned a power pole, causing it to fall to the ground. Firefighters then coned off the area where the active power line had landed until it could be shut off. The resident reportedly told firefighters that a fan he was using to cool off the trailer in the 90 degree heat started the fire.
