THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks’ boys soccer team captured its second consecutive Tri-Valley Conference championship, following a 3-0 win over North Marion in the regular season finale for both teams Oct. 27 in Aurora.
Senior midfielder Ivan Santana, who has a season total of seven goals and seven assists, scored twice as the Riverhawks built a 2-0 halftime lead. Senior forward Orlando Vargas scored a second half goal off an assist by Santana. (Vargas has a total of eight goals and five assists.)
The No. 6-ranked Riverhawks (8-1-1 TVC, 12-2-1 overall) will play a first round OSAA Class 4A state playoff home game Nov. 3 against the No. 11-ranked Phoenix High Pirates (5-3-4).
First-year Coach Shudi Datta said: “It was a good win for us against a team that has reached the 4A finals three of the last five years. We beat them twice this year and both games were shutouts. Our senior goalkeeper Bryan Cervantes (eight saves) played the best game ever of his career in helping to lead us to the win while making numerous great saves.”
The No. 8-ranked Huskies (7-3 TVC, 9-5 overall) beat the Riverhawks 2-1 in overtime in the 2025 state quarterfinals at Hood River Valley High School. The Riverhawks finished just ahead of the Huskies in the six-team TVC standings and qualified for the 4A playoffs for a fifth consecutive year.
The Nov. 3 winner will play in the Nov. 7 quarterfinals against the winner of a first round match-up between the No. 13-ranked Scappoose High Indians (6-6-3) and the No. 4-ranked Klamath Union High Pelicans (10-3).
