Mile Marker 28 fire 65 percent contained

“Firefighters continue to experience difficulty in completing line construction along the western boundary within the Satus Creek drainage. The challenging topography and erratic winds increased fire activity, making it difficult for firefighters to construct a line,” according to an email from public information officers.

So far the only injuries reported have been minor ones related to the heat. Preventing dehydration has been a priority as fire fighters work in the heat on steep, rugged terrain.

Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office downgraded the emergency level from Satus Pass south to Box Canyon Road from “advisory” to “precautionary.” Evacuation levels for the Cleveland and Bickleton areas remain the same until further notice.

The Red Cross Emergency Shelter in the area has been closed.
