Trout Lake and South Wasco County track and field teams were among Gorge small schools to take advantage of sunny weather at the March 16 Mullen Leavitt Invitational in The Dalles.
Trout Lake won four individual events and a relay at the 15-school competition at the Wahtonka High campus. South Wasco won two individual events.
Leading the way for Trout Lake was junior Violette Anderson, who won the girls shot put and 100-meter high hurdles, and placed third in the javelin. Anderson’s marks in the shot (32-11.75) and javelin (103-7) were personal bests. She won the hurdles in 18.36 seconds.
Distance runners Myana Stock and Alex Lopez won the girls 1500 meter race and boys 3000, respectively. Stock won the metric mile in 5 minutes, 10.28 seconds, which was two seconds faster than her previous best run while finishing second in the Class 1A state meet last May. Lopez won the 3000 in 10:40.24.
Also winning for the Mustangs was junior Sawyer Dean, who cleared 13-feet, 6-inches in the boys pole vault.
Trout Lake’s girls 4x100 meter relay team of Lupe Medina, Cora Sharp, Jade Mclean, and Nancy Painter won in 53.82 seconds. Media also added a runner-up finish in the 300-meter low hurdles (PR 54.65); Sharp was second in the 200 (PR 28.83); Mclean was second in the pole vault at 8 feet; and Painter was third in the 100 (13.89).
South Wasco’s individual winners were Jayda Iverson in the girls 800, in a personal best 2:33.8, and junior Macy Bell in the girls high jump at 4-11. The Redsides also had top places from sophomore Bailey Udey in the girls triple jump (second, PR 31-3) and long jump (second, PR 15-2.5).
The Redside boys were led by Coy Shirley, who was third in the javelin at 140-9 (a personal best), and senior Joey Holloway, whose throw of 133-10 was also a personal record. Holloway also had personal bests in the shot (39-1.5) and discus (104-9).
Sherman
The Huskies were led by girls discus winner Sophie Hulke, who threw 109-1. She also was second in the shot put (32-10) and sixth in the javelin.
The Sherman boys were led by throwers Renan Christiansen, Henry Poirier, and Luke Fritts. Christiansen was fourth in the shot (40-5); Poirier was sixth in the shot (39-9) and fifth in the discus (106-10); and Fritts was second in the discus (114-8).
The Horizon Christian Hawks had double, top-eight placers in junior Caleb Caldwell, who was fourth in the boys 1500 in a PR 4:40.23, and sixth in the 800 in a PR 2:17.96. Discus thrower Josiah Roberts was fourth in that event in 109-8.
Horizon’s girls were led by distance runner Noelle Stasak, who was fourth in the 1500 (PR 5:38.69) and sixth in the 800 (PR 2:46.72).
Dufur
Hayley Peterson and Cody Phillips led the Rangers. Peterson was second in the girls discus at 96-2 and third in the shot at 30-6. Phillips was second in the boys 110 high hurdles in 19.09 seconds.
Klickitat
Senior thrower Austin Fink finished second in the boys shot put in 42-7.25, and senior Lena Thiemann was third in the girls 100 hurdles (19.02), fourth in the javelin (95-3), seventh in the long jump (PR 13-8) and 11th in the 100.
Lyle/Wishram
Sophomore Jack Thiemann had a good day for the Lyle boys, with PRs in the triple jump, javelin, and 200. Teammate Jozlynn Pyle competed in four girls events: triple jump (5th); long jump (8th); javelin and discus.
Glenwood
Jayla Avila was seventh in the girls javelin and eighth in the 100 hurdles for Glenwood.
