The Dalles wrestling sees large turnout

THE DALLES — The Dalles High School’s wrestling program, guided by third-year Coach Barry Abrams and assistants Jake Abrams and JR Scott, is growing.

“This is the biggest team that we’ve had in at least 10 years and it’s fantastic having such a large group of wrestlers,” said Barry Abrams. “

The Class 4A Riverhawk boys squad will be led by senior returning state qualifiers Josh Brackenbury and Harley Scott. They’re both expected to reach the state tournament again in February in Portland.

The Riverhawks girls team will compete in the first event of their 15-meet schedule Dec. 5 at the 13-team Lady Ranger Classic Tournament at Estacada High School. The Riverhawk girls compete in the OSAA 30-team Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 3. The boys are members of the six-team Class 4A Special District 6. 

The Dalles boys squad opens its 15-event schedule Dec. 6 in the Ranger Classic. The Riverhawks’ boys and girls squads will have their home opener, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. vs. Madras at Kurtz Gym. Both squads will have three home meets this year.
